A Few Facts About Dragons, Half-Dragons, and Enspelled Dragons

Dragons

Dragons are lizardlike creatures, weighing about 2 to 3 tons, with a nose-to-tail length varying from 15 to 40 feet, depending on their subtype. The European type are shorter, with large, batlike wings. The American type are long and thin, with feathered wings. The Asian type are long and extremely flexible, and they use finlike structures to aid in flight.

None of the three types can fly far without magical assistance, but dragons are naturally skilled in magic. They use their inborn magic to command all the elements, but are best with fire and water.

There are no longer any dragons left unenspelled.

Half-Dragons

Half-dragons, despite their name, can have any proportion of human and dragon blood, and yet their characteristics remain the same.

Half-dragons can pass relatively easily as humans even when living among them. They are not quite either warm-blooded or cold-blooded but have some of the characteristics of a human with bad circulation. They have claws 1 1/2 to 2 inches long on their hands and quite short claws on their feet. They have slightly forked tongues. Their true eyes are a colored glow in a black hole, but they have a second set of eyelids with light-reactive cells built to mimic the appearance of the human eye. If a half-dragon is careful, all the disguise he needs is a pair of gloves.

Half-dragons have speed beyond the realm of human ability, but their reaction time is merely very good. This promotes a style where combatants stay far apart until they move in to strike, hoping to take their opponent by surprise.

Their ability to walk on unlikely surfaces is not magic, but rather has to do with the structure of their feet, which are flexible and scaled, something like a gecko’s. When a half-dragon becomes detatched from a ceiling, he falls to the floor.

Enspelled Dragons

Enspelled dragons, usually referred to at the present time only as pureblood or fullblood dragons, are under a spell which disguises them as humans, while leaving them with much of their physical strength and ability.

At first glance, an enspelled fullblood dragon is very similar to a half-dragon. The eyes and tongue are quite similar. The claws of a pureblood are partially retractable, and can be up to five inches long when extended. Pureblood dragons, however, are completely cold-blooded, and so have to avoid being touched by humans to maintain their disguise. They have no tear ducts, and some will release a smokelike substance from their nose when they sleep. This is not the product of any internal fire, but related to the release of salt from the noses of some lizards.
